Among the active consultants are 2 glaucoma specialists, 3 retina specialists, and 1 pediatric ophthalmologist.
Vision
To be a center of excellence for comprehensive eye care services and provide access to quality diagnostic, interventional and research facilities at par with specialty standards at affordable cost.
Mission
To preserve and restore the sight of present and future generations in Region VI by working to provide the highest quality comprehensive eye care to our patients with affordable access to the specialty standard diagnostic and interventional equipment and facilities, by developing new knowledge and skills, and by training other healthcare providers and patients to guarantee timely intervention as well as efficient referral and support systems.
As the designated apex hospital for the region, WVMC is set to open an Eye Center with its own Ambulatory Surgicenter in 2025. This will occupy the entire second floor of a newly-renovated building. While awaiting this transfer, the Department already functions as an Advanced Comprehensive Eye Center, with its own FA, OCT, A/B-scan, Perimetry unit, 2 surgical microscopes, a Phacoemulsification machine and a Vitrectomy machine.
With our OPD serving 80-100 patients daily, residents in our program are ensured a solid patient base to hone their skills in various types of cataract surgery (we are one of the few training programs that teach MSICS as a transition between ECCE and Phaco) and glaucoma surgery (Trabeculectomy and Lasers). Residents also have sufficient exposure to Ocular trauma, Vitreoretina surgery, ROP screening, and Pediatric strabismus surgery, and soon, Corneal transplants.
