Operating under the auspices of the Department of National Defense/Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (DND, PVAO), our mission is to provide comprehensive eye care to Armed Forces of the Philippines retirees and their dependents. Services under all major subspecialties are offered, each having at least 1 active consultant. Our consultants and graduates have diverse backgrounds (training/education, residence) – this keeps us open to inputs, trends, collaborations in/with the broader community. This helps make our services and training relevant and current.

Our outpatient daily census runs from 60 to over 100 a day. Having 2 residents a year, each resident can easily carry out over 100 lens surgeries during residency. Our patient profile is made more diverse age and background-wise due to our location in Quezon City, as the hospital also provides private care for non-beneficiary parents. Pediatric Ophthalmology training is reinforced substantially by rotations to the Philippine Children’s Medical Center. Board- mandated equipment is complete, and access is facilitated by the DND/PVAO. Considerable clinical material and equipment for research are available as the hospital is a tertiary level center with its own Institutional Review Board.

Our relatively small size and heavy workload make us a potentially good fit for self-driven trainees. Residents make the most of their training with us if they are thoughtful in terms of (1) having the initiative to study and discuss their patients thoroughly, and, of (2) working with a small team to share burdens, solve problems, and deliver care. Flexibility and patience will also go a long way in meeting the needs of our patients.
