The Department of Ophthalmology at Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital was formally established as an independent specialty unit in 1990, after initially being part of the EENT section of the Department of Surgery in the late 1970s. Founded by Dr. Manuel B. Agulto, a renowned glaucoma specialist, our program is a 3-year residency training fully accredited by the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology. We are proud to have 24 board-certified consultants—21 active and 3 visiting—who bring exceptional expertise and mentorship. Our vision is to be the comprehensive end- referral regional eye center in Central Luzon. Our mission is to provide excellent eye care through competent professionals, innovative technology, and collaborative partnerships across Region 3.
Our training program is built on a foundation of strong academics, hands-on clinical experience, and surgical exposure. Residents manage a diverse range of cases and benefit from structured didactic sessions, outside institutional rotations, and outreach missions that serve the local community. Our Eye Center continues to evolve with newly procured equipment and facility expansions, enhancing patient care and learning. Research is a key component, with residents encouraged to contribute to advancements in the field. What sets our program apart is our consistently high passing rate in the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology diplomate exams and our culture of excellence supported by dedicated faculty.
We welcome future ophthalmologists who are eager to grow in a nurturing yet rigorous environment. Join us in our commitment to advancing eye care while developing your full potential as a future leader in the field.
