The Cebu Velez General Hospital (CVGH) Department of Ophthalmology offers a full-time, four- year residency training program in Ophthalmology. Our faculty is composed of 26 Diplomates of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology, most of whom are subspecialists. The program aims to provide education for students and future ophthalmologists, advance knowledge, skills, and technology through teaching and research, and ensure the sustainability of eye health care services. Our Vision is to be a nationally competitive, socially responsible, community-oriented, and sustainable training center committed to eye care and leadership in ophthalmology. Our Mission is committed to these goals, and we aim to consistently abide by the Cebu Institute of Medicine’s goal to produce “Physicians with a HEART”.

Residents mature in clinical acumen, surgical judgment, technical skills, and professional ethics. Training occurs through opportunities for direct patient medical and surgical management, including duty in Outpatient Clinics (General and Subspecialty) and the Emergency Room. Comprehensive training is provided across numerous dedicated subspecialty services. Our program’s research arm works with the Cebu Institute of Medicine’s ethics review board to produce research that adheres to the institution’s standard of excellence. The program is dedicated to continuous advancement, actively enhancing its training resources and facilities to ensure comprehensive resident education and high-quality patient care. What makes our program special is our unwavering commitment to producing “Physicians with a HEART”, integrating advanced clinical and surgical training with a strong emphasis on social responsibility, community orientation, and ethical practice, guided by dedicated consultants.

We invite future applicants to join our program, where you will receive comprehensive training not only in the science and practice of ophthalmology but also in embodying the values of a “Physician with a HEART,” contributing to eye care leadership in the community.
