Nestled in the heart of the queen city of the south is the Cebu Doctors University Hospital (CDUH) Department of Ophthalmology. Located in the center of Cebu City, we are a growing family of ophthalmologists and residency graduates since 1981. Under the leadership of the chairman of the department: Dr. Potenciano SD. Larrazabal III, we offer one of the most cutting edge residency training programs available in the Visayas and at par with the rest of the archipelago. Some esteemed members of our 20-strong board-certified faculty include: Dr. George C. Chan, Dr. Jonathan D. del Prado, Dr. Jeffrey C. Lim, Dr. Nikki C. Lim and residency training officer Dr. Melody T. Daclan are resident graduates that have returned to become active members of the training staff of the department. Our faculty with both local and international subspecialists in: orbit & oculoplastics, vitreoretinal surgery, cornea & external disease, glaucoma, low vision, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatrics & strabismus and refractive surgery all strive to enrich the clinical and surgical skill expected of a holistic world-class ophthalmologist.

The 4-year residency training at CDUH exposes the trainee to the highest quality equipment in clinical and surgical ophthalmology. The department houses 5 operating rooms: two for cataract and retina surgery each outfitted with high end microscopes and surgical towers, one for orbit & oculoplastics and strabismus surgery, one femtosecond cataract laser suite and one premium laser refractive surgery suite. Pair this with an ample supply of charity patients often in excess of that required by the Board of Ophthalmology and you have all the necessary tools for the growth of a responsible eye surgeon. We also believe community ophthalmology is a necessary aspect of training and as such our trainees are engaged in quarterly cataract and pterygium missions led by the Sui Generis Mission team to low-resource areas throughout Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao where both their surgical and civic leadership skills can be honed.
