The Department of Ophthalmology at Batangas Medical Center (BatMC) driven by the commitment and collective effort of its staff has undergone a remarkable transformation prioritizing both patient care and the accreditation of its residency program. Recognizing the evolving needs of our patients, we have aggressively pursued changes and improvements to ensure that our facilities, services and residency program stands at the forefront of medical education and patient care.

Serving a diverse community, the department manages nearly 8,000 outpatient consults and over 300 cataract surgeries annually, combining advanced care with robust training opportunities.

With dedicated consultants including sub specialists in all major subspecialties, the department offers daily supervision across outpatient, surgical, and emergency settings. This ensures high-quality care and comprehensive, hands-on learning for residents. Our mission, emphasizes Service, Implementation of quality programs, revenue generation for BatMC, and public health advocacy, alongside fostering competence, professionalism, and ethical conduct. The department aspires to be the preferred center for eye care in Batangas and Region 4.

In August 2023, the new Eye Care Center was inaugurated, equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic tools such as the Carl Zeiss Clarus, Cirrus OCT, Humphrey perimeter, and lasers, along with a dedicated operating room featuring two phacoemulsification machines, including one with a posterior vitrector and endolaser.

BatMC’s residency program emphasizes direct supervision, early hands-on exposure, and academic growth. Residents gain extensive experience with diverse ophthalmic cases and are encouraged to engage in research, and contribute to advancing ophthalmic knowledge. The program’s community- centered focus allows residents to impact patient care and public health initiatives meaningfully.
