The ARMMC Department of Ophthalmology is a small close-knit department. It has gone through (and will go through) the floods of Marikina and survived. The consultants are dedicated to service and education. There are currently 11 PBO certified consultants, most of which are renowned in their subspecialties. The recent graduates turned diplomates are pursuing their own areas of expertise with the help and guidance of their mentors.
We are a certified DOH Basic and Comprehensive Eye Center and is the end referral eye center in the Eastern part of Manila including the Rizal areas. We see an average of 60-80 patients per day since the pandemic restrictions have been lifted. We average around 200 surgeries per year despite the limited number of operating rooms. We are still improving and developing our facilities and services as we aim to provide a patient-centered form of service and hands-on training to our residents.
To the future applicants, welcome! We know the road to residency is difficult and the road to PBO diplomate is even more so. We hope you give our humble department a chance to guide you along the way. Bring your submarines and jetskis—you will definitely be in for ride.
